Dr. Hamid Hugo Marcus wurde als Jude geboren und trat später dem Islam und der Lahore-Ahmadiyya-Bewegung bei. Er war Doktor der Philosophie und Dozent. Von 1930 bis 1935 war er Präsident der Deutsch-Muslimischen-Gesellschaft in Berlin. Nach Aussagen von Maulana Sadr-ud-Din war Hamid Marcus maßgeblich an der deutschen Übersetzung des Heiligen Qur´an durch die Lahore Ahmadiyya Bewegung beteiligt.

Eine seiner Broschüren wurde ins Englische und später ins Niederländische übersetzt. Die niederländische Ausgabe erschien im Jahre 1933 in Indonesien, wann und wo die englische Ausgabe erschien ist, konnte noch nicht geklärt werden. Die eigentlich deutsche Originalausgabe ist nie erschienen.

Aufgrund seiner jüdischen Herkunft musste Dr. Marcus, zusammen mit seiner betagten Mutter Deutschland verlassen. Mit Hilfe der Lahore-Ahmadis konnte er in der Schweiz ein neues Zuhause finden. Nach 1945 schrieb er des öfteren Artikel für „The Islamic Review“ in Großbritannien. Er verstarb in den 1960er Jahren in der Schweiz.

Die Broschüre aus Indonesien wurde Manfred Backhausen im Oktober 2008 von Herrn Beat Frischknecht aus Zürich/Schweiz geschenkt. Beat Frischknecht hatte Manfred Backhauen zahlreiche Informationen und ein Foto von Hamid Marcus für dessen Buch „Die Lahore-Ahmadiyya-Bewegung“ übergeben.

Dr. Hamid Hugo Marcus was a Jew by birth and joined Islam and the Lahore Ahmadiyya Movement later. He was a doctor of the philosophy and a lecturer. From 1930 to 1935, he was the president of the “German Muslim Society (Deutsch-Muslimische-Gesellschaft)” at Berlin. According to a statement of Maulana Sadr-ud-Din, Hamid Marcus played a decisive role in the German translation of the Holy Quran through the Lahore Ahmadiyya Movement published in the 1930s.

One of his booklets appeared in English and later in Dutch translation. The Dutch edition was published in the year 1933 in Indonesia. When and where the English edition appeared could not yet be clarified. The German original edition has never appeared.

Due to the fact that he was born as a Jew, Dr. Marcus, together with his old mother, had to leave Germany. With the help of the Lahore Ahmadis, he found a new home in Switzerland. After 1945, he often wrote articles for The Islamic Review in Great Britain. He died in the 1960s in Switzerland.

The booklet from Indonesia was to presented to Manfred Backhausen by Mr. Beat Frischknecht from Zurich, Switzerland in October 2008. Mr. Frischknecht had also given Manfred Backhausen much information and a photo of Hamid Marcus for his new German book “The Lahore Ahmadiyya Movement in Europe”.
